Elementary Program

The elementary curriculum builds on the goals and accomplishments of casa and offers to the 6-12 year old the richness of key concepts of all areas of the curriculum, introducing new elements that spark the interest and imagination. Some of the topics  include charts, timelines, maps experiments, research cards, books and captivating stories as well as field trips and the weather, rocks, soil, plants, animals and the materials of the real world.

Our Elementary classroom is enriched with contemporary extensions and activities to give an outstanding foundation for creating a stimulating, exciting program.

The Five Great Lessons  form the framework of the subjects of elementary curriculum enriched with contemporary extensions in the areas of geography, botany, zoology, history and social studies. Children learn the history of universe in connection with humans and their story of coming to earth, the development of language and numbers.

 

MATHEMATICS

Students are presented with concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimal fractions, common fractions, geometry and algebra.

LANGUAGE ARTS

for the elementary curriculum includes the components of parts of speech, creative writing, Novel Studies, Spelling, Penmanship, Dictionary Skills, Book Report, Reading, Poetry, and Drama.

ADVANCED PRACTICAL LIFE

Activities foster in children creativity, self-esteem, respect for other and preparation for adulthood

COSMIC EDUCATION AND PEACE

The curriculum explains and describes that all life and all things are in life are interconnected and are part of cosmic plan in which everything is working together towards its own perfection.

TAMIL AND SINHALA LANGUAGE

The curriculum introduces students to the grammatical structures and sounds formed in both Tamil and Sinhala. It includes teaching basic oral and written communication skills and building essential vocabulary such as numbers, social life/family, personal identification, and classroom orientation.

CULTURAL STUDIES

This topic makes up major part of the elementary curriculum. It includes the history of earth, civilizations and the arts , botany, zoology, history and geography (physical geography and cultural geography)

CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

Cultural geography leaves many ways to the children to explore different cultural background in connection with continents, mapping and cultural evolution.

HISTORY

History of elementary curriculum provides opportunity to encourage cultural understanding and explore the comprehensive view of “Earth and Humans”.

BOTONY & ZOOLOGY

The study of the natural environment and animals reinforces a child to connect to the natural world we live in. Includes understanding the plant anatomy, functions, physiology studies & observing actual living beings.

ASTRONOMY

Children explore the mysteries of universe as well as the chemical elements and stats of matter. Children acquire knowledge of the formation of earth, the solar system and land and water forms.
